The Mathematics Institute
At the forefront of international mathematics research.

Since it was founded in 1965 by Professor Sir Christopher Zeeman, the Mathematics Institute has gone from strength to strength, firmly establishing itself as an international leader in its field. In the most recent Research Assessment Exercise (1996), it was awarded the maximum rating of 5*A for research of international excellence. This leading edge research feeds into teaching of the highest quality.

The Institute has 40 permanent academic staff - all active research mathematicians of international stature. Its programme of research symposia and workshops, run by the Mathematics Research Centre, attracts the leading mathematicians from all over the world who visit on a regular basis (an average of 200 visitors per year).

Course location
A semi-rural setting with first rate communication links.

The course will be held at the University of Warwick’s Mathematics Institute, which has excellent facilities for intensive short courses, including state of the art lecture theatres, intimate seminar rooms and superb computing facilities.

The University of Warwick is situated in a pleasant semi-rural setting, yet still only three miles from Coventry City Centre. Birmingham International Airport is less than 20 minutes away by road, and the M1, M40, M42, M69 and M6 motorways are easily accessible, whilst half hourly intercity trains reach London in 70 minutes.

Accommodation
Modern, comfortable, and well equipped.

Accommodation will be provided in the comfortable en suite bedrooms of Scarman House, which is purpose built for conference and course participants. Overlooking the gentle, wooded Warwickshire countryside, Scarman House is campus-based, and only a short walk from the Mathematics Institute.

Each bedroom is equipped for private study, with direct dial telephone, radio alarm, colour television, hair dryer and tea and coffee making facilities.

Administrative information
The course will begin on the evening Sunday 18 April and will end at approximately noon on Saturday 24 April. Travel directions and maps will be sent to all participants approximately three weeks before the start of the course. Course material will be distributed at the start of the course.
