Low Dimensional Geometry and Topology

Main Organiser: Caroline Series

SOCIAL EVENTS during the July 2007 Workshops

Monday 9th July and Monday 16th July there will be buffet suppers in the Mathematics Institute.

Thursday 12th July there will be free afternoon with the option of a walk to Kenilworth or visit to Kenilworth Castle.

No activity is planned for Sunday 15th July.

For the five additional events listed below, we ask for expressions of interest on the online registration form. This does not involve a formal commitment at this point.

1. Barbecue at the Mathematics Institute, on the evening of Friday 13th July.

This will be held just outside the Zeeman Building and is part of David Epsteins's birthday celebration. It is free to all conference participants. Vegetarian options and drinks will be provided. Fine weather is planned, but with alternative arrangements.

2. Buffet lunch in the Mathematics Institute. Saturday 14th July.

Also part of David's party. Free to conference participants. Vegetarian options available.

3. Visit to Stratford upon Avon. Afternoon of Wednesday 18th July.

Stratford upon Avon, situated about 15 miles south of campus, is renowned as the birthplace of William Shakespeare. Transport will leave campus at various times and participants will be free to explore the town. Interesting sights include Shakespeare's birthplace and Anne Hathaway's cottage. Return transport will be provided early and late evening.

4. Performance of Macbeth. Evening of Wednesday 18th July.
All ticket for Macbeth are now sold and no more will be available.

5. Conference Dinner. Evening of Thursday 19th July.

We have made a special conference booking at the Ryton Organic Gardens, near Coventry. The dinner will be free to participants. This has a set menu with a vegetarian option. All food is organic, of course. The gardens are run by the Henry Doubleday Research Association, a charitable organisation that promotes organic gardening methods. Participants will have a brief opportunity to explore their gardens before having dinner in their restaurant which is indoors, but has good views of the gardens. Transport provided.
