The research group in Applied and Computational Mathematics, which has
achieved the top 5* rating at the last two RAE's, is very active
with interests spanning a range of exciting areas. These include:
The group has many interactions with the
rest of the Mathematics Department and other departments within the
University on a number of areas including
stochastic analysis and probability, the
MIR@W Programme, the
Fluid Dynamics, the
Complexity Complex, the
Department of Computer Science, the
Centre for Scientific Computing, the
Centre for Discrete Mathematics and its Applications (DIMAP),
Financial Mathematics, and
Molecular Organisation and Assembly in Cells (MOAC), to
name but a few. Weekly the group holds either a seminar or a larger
meeting (MIR@W day) devoted to a
topic in the applications of mathematics.
Graduate students may be admitted as regular students in the
Mathematics Department, through the MIR@W
programme, through the Doctoral Training Centres (DTCs) in
Complexity,
MOAC,
Scientific Computing,
Systems Biology or through the
MSc. degree in Financial Mathematics.
